These are offered every month; if there is a minimum of 3 couples. A maximum of 12 couples can be accommodated.
Cost:$50.00 for series of six classes, or for the weekend class; there is no refund for individual classes not attended. Couples with a written referral from the Healthy Family Program or CPNP will have the fee waived.
Registration: advance registration is required; you must go in person to the Yellowknife Public Health Unit, Jan Stirling Building. Please sign up between 32 and 36 weeks. For more information: call 920-6570.
It is suggested that you bring a support person to each class with you. It doesn't always have to be the same person, but it should be someone you plan to have at the birth.
Topics include: relaxation techniques, birth as a rite of passage, warning signs in pregnancy, labour and delivery (process of and coping mechanisms), hospital tour, caesarean birth and medical interventions, infant nutrition, the early days and transition to parenthood.
