Process for becoming a foster parent

There are several documents you will need to provide for the process of becoming a foster parent. You can download the necessary forms HERE to get you started. You will also need a criminal records check, however you will need to pick up our form to waive the fee for this at our offices located in the Jan Stirling Building. There are often 2-3 home visits required to complete the home study for fostering purposes.

Process for adopting a child

There are several documents required to proceed with an application to adopt. You can download the necessary forms HERE to get you started. You will also need a criminal records check, however you will need to pick up our form to waive the fee for this at our offices located in the Jan Stirling Building. There are often 5-8 home visits required to complete the home study for adoption purposes, including separate visits with each potential adoptive parent. Other documents required are copies of your birth certificates, marriage certificate/statutory declaration(for those living common-law), proof of NWT residency (such as a driver’s license), and a photograph of yourself/family. We accept applications from married, common-law, and single applicants.
