Telehealth
The telehealth system is a sophisticated network of information hardware and software by which we can offer clients increased access to existing or new health and social services programs and services. Telehealth reduces the need for medical travel and allows patients to get a more equal level of access to services and programs regardless of their community of residence.
The YHSSA Telehealth program currently offers client services, training and teleconferencing services in Fort Resolution, Lutsel K'e, Yellowknife to communities throughout the NWT and Canada. It offers real-time consultation between specialists located in Yellowknife or Edmonton, and patients located in the remote communities with Telehealth facilities.
Services that we've used telehealth for:
- TeleEducation : Educational sessions on Health and Social Service topics that are of interest to professionals. These education sessions usually welcome anyone to attend, please see our calendar for a list of upcoming TeleEducation sessions.
- TeleMentalHealth: Providers here in Yellowknife provide services for clients all around the north including Nunavut for various mental health related issues.
- TeleConsultations: Southern specialists have used telehealth links to remotely consult with patients here in the North mitigating the need for medical travel.
Stanton Territorial Health Authority provides a variety of other telehealth services from their hospital environment.
